UE5 Short Film

Overview

Back when the internet was completely oversaturated with the trending "Studio Ghibli style" AI filters and generic prompts inside ChatGPT, I grew so exhausted by this creative parasitism that I decided to push back in the best way I know how: by making a short film mocking the entire trend.

Instead of riding the wave, I used the project as a satirical commentary on superficial AI aesthetics. To bring this vision to life, I combined the power of Unreal Engine and Blender, handling the technical and creative pipeline from scratch to build a fully realized, anti-trend visual statement.

For the environment, I built and modeled my own assets in Blender, then imported them into Unreal Engine. Once the layout was set up, I worked on the lighting and atmospheric effects to establish the final mood of the scene.

To texture the assets efficiently, I used the camera projection technique. Starting with low-poly base meshes, this method allowed me to project textures onto the geometry quickly and easily, while still achieving a remarkably realistic and high-detail result without overcomplicating the texturing pipeline.

To build the interior, I used a 3D scan of my grandmother's old room. It fit the atmosphere and stylistic needs of this short film perfectly, adding a unique, authentic touch to the background.
